BACKGROUND
Every other year, Texas Marching Bands are granted the opportunity to advance to the UIL State Marching Championships in the Alamodome, San Antonio TX. Bands that receive superior ratings at the Area Marching Contest compete among the top-rated marching ensembles in the state to achieve the Grand Champion title among all competitive bands.
Stage 1: UIL Region Marching Contest
The first competition of this 3-stage process is known as the UIL Regionals Marching Contest. All bands from all school ratings (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A) compete to earn a division 1 and advance to the Area Competition (If State Year Applies).
Stage 2: UIL AREA Marching Contest
After bands have received the First Division at the UIL Regionals Competition, all ensembles advance to the Area Marching Contest. The competition grants each band a Prelims and Finals performance under UIL regulations. After the competition has concluded, all bands in the finals competition will attend a Retreat to announce all the rankings and those who will move on to the State Marching Contest.
Stage 3: UIL State Marching Championships
The final event, known as the UIL State Marching Championships, is held in San Antonio TX where the top bands from each AREA compete to rank among the best ensembles in Texas. All participating bands receive outstanding praise and recognition for competing in one of the most difficult marching band competitions in Texas.
